On Google Wave

So, I’m on Google Wave.

It seems really complicated — and this is from the inside.

Something for the Google folks to keep in mind.

So, if you want to lose me in a movie, have a lot of expository dialogue to explain what’s going on. Unless you can get Sam Elliott to narrate it - that guy’s got an awesome voice. If you need a lot of expository information to explain something, you’re digging yourself a pretty big hole, truth be told. And right now, Google Wave has that going on. Lots of exposition to get people going. It’s not really strongly connected to things that people know. So it takes a lot of explanation.

Problem is, the internet’s never been great for that kind of stuff. The internet’s given rise to the acronym TL, DR - this stands for “too long, didn’t read.” You need to explain stuff to people, sure, but it’s gotta come bit by bit - and with a hands-on component for them to get going with quickly. Otherwise the message will be lost.

So, Google Wave - because we live in a world where Sam Elliott can’t narrate everything, it’s up to you to simplify and connect. Otherwise, Google Wave tutorials will go the way of Crystal Pepsi commercials.

Also, if you’re on Google Wave and want to prove me wrong? Well, dandunford am I.
