January 2008
Days like this.
There are good days. There are bad days. Then there are jaw-dropping days, days where you witness one of your students - a generally sweet, but somewhat troubled 12-year-old girl - struggling as she’s escorted, handcuffed, by 2 police officers to a squad car following a knife fight. Guess which one today was?

erockappel:
My good friend, Brett Gelman, is the new mascot for the NY Lottery. He’s called “Little Bit Of Luck.” Watching him run around the NY Lotto site as a tiny flash based character is extremely surreal…and hilarious.

Not everyone can play guitar.
I’ve been on a VH1 Classic binge lately. I’ve seen documentaries/vintage concerts that center on the Who and the Rolling Stones. You know what’s weird? When you see concert footage of Mick Jagger or Roger Daltrey and they’re playing guitar, sort of. It just looks…wrong. And terrible. Quite terrible. And unnatural.

For Wednesday, January 9 -Big news is coming to your group soon, and while all the others may react emotionally, you don’t need to fly off the handle. This is something that you have been suspecting for quite a while, so the news flash won’t be much of a news flash for you. reblogged from katespencer My kid brother is in the Navy. My sister-in-law and my former roommate, the Army. All of them have spent time in the sandbox out there. This piece blew me away with a sense of perspective I’d never thought of before, and I was crying when I finished reading it.

I am stuck in 1995.
R.E.M. have a new record coming out (in April) and I am stoked, largely because I’ve heard the new songs and they rock (for R.E.M.). The only difference between me now and me in 1995 is that I don’t have a lot of terrible-looking, stringy hair to push away from my face as I make this statement. One of these days, internet, you shall behold my glorious mane of teenaged hair.
